Travis Cohen was born in the Bronx on November 9, 1916, the son of Isaac and Mary (Levine) Cohen. He had an older sister, Edna, born around 1912. Both parents emigrated from Russia to New York; their father, Isaac, was a salesman of men's clothing. The family made their home in the Bronx, living on Valentine Avenue, and later on Briggs Avenue.
After high school TravisĀ went to work as a junior salesman at a retail clothing store (possibly with his father.) His sister Edna was already working in the same field keeping the books.
As an adult Travis continued to live in the Bronx, living at what is now the Amber Court Assisted Living facility on Waring Avenue.
Travis Cohen died on June 12, 2003 at the Montefiore Medical Center, and was buried on Hart Island.
