Theodore Waugh was born May 15, 1910, in New York, the son of Robert and Julia Waugh. He had four brothers: Robert born 1902, William born 1907, John L. born 1914, and Arthur born around 1919. Their father, Robert, was an Irish immigrant, who became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. in 1906. He was a chemist, employed by the Fritzshe Brothers.
The family made their home in the borough of Queens, first on Walrose Avenue, and later, during the 1930's and 1940's at 7934 67th Road.
Theodore attended Newtown High School, and later Columbia University College of Pharmacy. He was the only one of the boys who followed their father into the field of science. Robert was a packer for a sporting goods company, William was a truck driver, John worked as a gardener/florist, and Arthur, in 1940 at the age of 22 was just listed as a "new worker."
In December 1942, Theodore enlisted in the U.S. Army. He gave his civilian job description as "healer and medical service occupations,"stated that he was "single without dependents," and was 5'6" tall, and weighed 157 pounds.
By 1958 Theodore had acquired a wife, Mary, and the two of them made a month-long journey to the United Kingdom, traveling from New York City to Liverpool on the Cunard liner- Britannic; and returning to New York from Southampton on the U.S. liner- America. Theodore gave his occupation as a manager/chemist; and Mary was described as a housewife.
Later in life, Theodore and Mary lived at 24 Elinor Place, Freeport, New York, and 24 N. Oceanside Rd. in Rockville Centre, New York. His last residence was in Far Rockaway...right back where he started out...in Queens.
Mary Waugh died February 15, 1990. Theodore Waugh died December 23, 2003, aged 93, at the Peninsula Hospital Center, and was buried on Hart Island.
