Sven Ragnar Wallin was born May 28, 1914 at Overtornea, Sweden, the son of Axel Teodor and Olga Elisabeth (Johansson) Wallin.
Sven was a sailor, working in the 1940's on the S.S. Marion Crawford, S.S. Dwight L. Moody, S.S. Dalton Victory, and the S.S. Knox Victory. The latter two were Victory Ships, built under the Emergency Shipbuilding Program during World War II. They were used by the U.S. Merchant Marines as cargo ships to support the Allied war effort. Sven traveled primarily between New York City and the west coast cities of Los Angeles and Portland, and the European cities of Antwerp, Belgium; Bremerhaven, Germany; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Greenock, Scotland.
Despite being a Swedish citizen, Sven registered for the draft in the United States. He gave his address as 464 W. 131st Street in New York City. As the "person who will always know your address", Sven listed the Swedish Seaman's Home at 6 Water Street in NYC. He was described as 5' 10" tall, weighed 160 pounds, with brown eyes, brown hair, a dark complexion, and tattoos on both arms.
Sven's last residence was in Staten Island, New York. He died on November 28, 1993. He was buried August 16, 1994 on Hart Island.
