Santo "Sam"  Zacoum was born in Turkey in about 1904 and moved to the United States in 1914 at age 10 with his parents Hector and Clara Zacoun, and his grandmother Rebecca Gelbowitz (who was about 64 when they moved to the US). Santo's father Hector was born in Turkey, but his mother was born in Poland and his grandmother Rebecca was Russian. They spoke Yiddish. Clara was 20 when Santo was born, and his father Hector was 25.

In 1925, the four of them lived together at 318 E. 12th Street in Manhattan. The family later moved to 347 E. 91st Street in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn.

Sam married Anna Kugelmas at age 21. They had three children: David, born on October 8, 1926; Rose, born in 1928; and Jacob, born in September 1939. The couple divorced in 1945.

Sam was preceded in death by his son David Zacoum, who died in 1973 in Brooklyn. David is buried in East Ridgelawn Cemetery in Clifton, New Jersey. Son Jacob passed away in 2001 in Brooklyn and is bured at New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon, NY. Rose married Alexnander Kalish and became Rose Kalish. She died in 2002 and is also bured at New Montefiore.

Sam's grandchild Carey passed away in 2004.
