Ruby Elaine Medina (nee Thomas) was born in New York City on April 14, 1932. She was the daughter of Massachusetts born, Austin and Barbados born, Germaine (Atkins) Thomas. Ruby had a younger brother, Norman, and the family were living on West 144 Street in 1940. Her father worked as a house painter and her mother was a housewife.
Ruby lived in various apartments during her life, including a now demolished building at 281 Saint Ann's Avenue and 2070 Clinton Avenue both in the Bronx. She passed away on February 15, 1998 and is buried on Hart Island.
