Rózsa Tillman was born on the 25th of November 1932 in the town of Kaposvár, Hungary to Vendel Tillman and Katalin Káplona. She had worked in the Treasury Department before 1956 in Budapest. Rozsa and her half-sister, Iren Filiszár Nagy, fled Hungary after the 1956 Revolution, and after their mother had caustic soda poured down her throat because she spoke out against the Communist party that was occupying Hungary. The sisters were somehow separated with Iren ending up in Australia. We find Rozsa entering the US on April 14, 1959. She applied for citizenship and became a citizen on June 27, 1966. We do not know the story of Rozsa's life here in the US until she is found murdered by a group of marauding young boys that were terrorizing Central Park in the summer of 1984. Her body was found outside the boathouse, near the Conservatory Pond, and not too far from the Alice in Wonderland statute, July 22, 1984. She had been horribly murdered. Three youths, ages 12, 14, & 16 were charged with her murder.
Rozsa's half-sister had looked for Rozsa for years, to no avail, until her passing.... then Rozsa's nephew took up the mantle. In May of 2020, we can finally say we have found Aunt Rozsa..... may she rest in peace on Hart's Island.
