Richard Edward Bowler was born on June 21st, 1898 to Mary and William Bowler. Richard's father was a native of England and his mother Mary was born in New York (her parents were born in Ireland).
Richard's parents lived on a private estate in Stamford, where they worked as a housekeeper and gardener. Richard spent his childhood in Connecticut and later moved to Manhattan when he came of age. Richard lived on W. 51st Street during his late teens and 20s and worked as an actor in the city.
Richard worked as a prolific stage actor and performed on Broadway in a number of notable productions. His Broadway credits included originating the role of Ezekiel Cheever in The Crucible (1964); The Seagull (1964); More Stately Mansions (1967); Porgy and Bess (1944); and The Lady Has a Heart (1937).
