Norwood Anderson

Norwood Anderson was born January 4, 1901 in Mississippi. He was the son of Lafayette and Harriett "Hattie" Anderson. In 1910 the family, including Norwood's younger brother, Lafayette Jr., was living in Muskogee, Oklah0ma. Norwood later stated that he went to school through the eighth grade. By 1920 they were in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, where his father was the proprietor of a pool hall, and Norwood worked at street paving. The 1940 census shows Norwood living in Chester, NY, working as a handyman at a grocery store. He gave his marital status as "single".
