Nicholas Dejoie was born in Haiti and played a significant role in Haitian politics until he was targeted by the Haitian Dictator Francois Duvalier A.K.A.Papa Doc who came to power in 1957. He was forced to seek asylum from the Cuban Embassy and left Haiti in 1959 for Havana, Cuba. He leaved there for 8 years and eventually moved to the United States. Arrests, Torture and other brutal treatment both in Haiti and Cuba compromised his health to such an extent that he never recovered. It is quite disturbing for a man who has aspired to serve his country as a Senator to end in such a final resting place. May he rest in peace.
