I am Nelson Almonte's youngest son, Allen Nelson Almonte. I was 6 years old when he passed away. There's a saying that sons stick close to their mothers and daughters stay close to their fathers. For me it was the opposite. I was really close with my father.
My Father would do anything to make me smile. He would always take me to school, pick me up then pick up a toy on the way home. My favorite memory is when he would dress me up in his jewelry and we would take pictures together and just hang out and be silly. Years later, into my adulthood, I found a letter my aunt had wrote on my behalf after he passed. Their was one thing that stood out the most and its really simple, that he loved me very much. Those words alone helped me cope that hes been missing from my life for so many years. Just recently I actually found out the reason he was murdered and what happened to those people thanks to someone truly special in my life. For years I always wondered what actually happened. Finding out this info gave me closure and gave me insight as to who my father really was. I am proud to be his son and I hope to make him proud for all the remaining years I have left. Now that I am growing into the man I need to be ill leave with these parting words; Dad, I'm here living in your honor. I hope to be the type of man you're proud of. Its been so hard not having you in crucial times in my life but you havent gone anywhere. You will always be here in my heart. I hope to be an amazing father like you were to me. I will continue to do all I can to make you and grandmother proud. Just please continue to guide me and be by my side as you always have. Love always, your son, Allen Nelson Almonte
