I am Nancy's son. I was born Kevin Hothan, in October of 1994 to Nancy Sue Hothan who was born March 4th 1955. That is the only information I have of her. I was removed from her care in 1996 and put in the foster care system until my adoption in 2000, where my surname was also changed.  I did try to look her up with the information given to me from my birth certificate and I was brought to this website. I know she was from Plainfield NJ, and I was born in Queens. From what I've read it seems like nobody knows that I exist.

Nancy Sue was born on March 4, 1955.  She lived 3 doors down from me in suburban NJ & was one of my best childhood friends.

Her life wasn't easy, but in every memory I have of her she is laughing & upbeat.  She was friendly to everyone & especially loved animals.

I moved away when we were teenagers, but Nancy kept in touch with me by phone for many years.  I last visited her in NJ probably in the mid 90's.  She was living on her own in an apartment & seemed to be doing well.

When my friend Sarah & I last tried to find her, we were told her last known address was in Queens.  I wonder what brought her to NY, & what her life was like there.  I hope she continued to find happiness.

Nancy Hothan was a sweet girl when she lived up the street from me in Plainfield, NJ. Her life was challenging. She was developmentally disabled, and lost her mother when she was only 7 years old. Her father Bill and her sister Linda raised her, and although my family largely lost track of her, she lived for a while in a group residence in Plainfield before moving to New York and then apparently disappearing. It was sad to hear recently that she'd passed away, but comforting that this record of her has been found. Rest in peace, Nancy Sue Hothan.

I am so sad to find sweet Nancy Hothan here. My friend Betty and I knew her in Plainfield, NJ, during the 1960s, 70s, and early/mid 80s. We have both been trying to find her for years.

How disheartening to learn that Nancy apparently died with no one looking after her.  I am grateful that this project exists, with the chance to finally honor her.  If only there had a been a similar option to find her when she was still living.

RIP Nancy Hothan, innocent soul.
