Michael Devaney was born on June 16, 1906 in Co. Sligo, Ireland. His parents were Michael and Margaret Devaney (née Fox). His family lived in Carrownrod (Ceathrú an Roda), a townland in Easky (Easkey) in Co. Sligo, Ireland. Michael was baptized on June 23, 1906 in Easky.
Michael’s siblings included older sisters Anne and Mary, and younger siblings Margaret, Martin, and Patrick.
Michael left Ireland from Cobh, Co. Cork in 1926, sailing on the RMS Samaria for New York. He arrived on August 3rd, 1926. After arriving in New York, he worked as a chauffeur and later had a career in the railroad industry.
On January 26, 1933, he married Minnie Kelly, a native of Co. Clare, Ireland. Michael applied for U.S. citizenship in November, 1933.
Michael passed away on May 17th, 1986 in Manhattan.
