Louis  Edward McClanahan was born September 14, 1968 in Harlem, New York City. An avid music-lover, he became a DJ in his  teens.

His love of music led him to work as a studio engineer for many years. Louis worked side by side with and behind some of the biggest names in the music business.

Growing up, the house was always filled with music. Jungle Brothers, De la Soul, Chaka Khan--from Soul to Jazz to Hip-Hop-- you name it, he played it.

Louis had a voracious appetite for learning. He adapted to the evolving music industry by learning Pro-Tools before it was commonly used and mastered cutting-edge technology to develop his craft. He had a penchant for all things technical.

Louis curated a vast musical library on the computer, archiving so much of the music that throughout time has served as food for our souls.  Stevie Wonder, America, Minnie Riperton and the Rotary Connection, Duke Ellington. Any artist of relevance was included in the catalogue. It was an impressive collection.

Louis also had a beautiful singing voice.  He was shy to use it, but it was filled with music. As a child while hearing Stevie Wonder singing on the radio, I thought it was Louis singing. His laughter was contagious as well.

After graduating from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. High School, Louis attended Rochester University. His love of science. and biology especially, propelled him toward studies that would put him on a Pre-Med track. But making music was his true love. He loved making music so much he left University to cut his teeth in the music industry.

In the music industry Louis was known as Gruve. Groove on Gruve. Groove on. Rest in Peace. This world may have been unkind to you, but Black man, you are loved. You are remembered.  I love you Louis. Your sister always.
