Louis (Luigi) Di Geronimo was born on the 22nd of December 1889 in the hillside town of Santomenna located in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy.

Luigi left Italy with his parents and six siblings in the early 1900's to make a new life in the United States.  The Di Geronimo family included: parents, Michele and Annita, five sons -Vito, Euries, Luigi, Silvio and Donato - and two daughters, Maria and Lena.

The family settled in the Bronx, New York, where Michael worked as a housepainter.  Luigi, now known as Louis, worked as a jockey (horseman) at nearby Belmont Racetrack.  When not working as a jockey, Louis worked as a house painter.  The family did have an artistic side:  Michael described himself as an artist, Donato was a violinist and Lena a pianist.

Louis served in the United States Army during WWI and was assigned to Camp Jackson, South Carolina in 1918.  By this time, however, the war was ending and his unit did not ship overseas to the front.

Since their arrival in the United States, the Di Geronimo family has been recorded on every published census to date :  Federal Censuses 1910, 1920, 1930, and 1940.  As well as New York State Censuses 1915 and 1925.

Louis was registered for the draft of WWII when he was 53 years old.  He was described as being 5 feet 3 inches tall, with brown eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion.

Louis (Luigi) Di Geronimo died in April 1986 and was buried on Hart Island on the 20th of May 1986.
