Leopoldo (Leopold) Andres Porrata was born November 29, 1915, in Yauco, Puerto Rico, the son of Leopoldo Porrata and Justina Gutierrez. Other children in the family were Abraham, Sebastian, and Radames. From 1920 to 1930 the family lived in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In July of 1934, at the age of 19, Leopold traveled from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico to New York City on the ship Delfina; and in September he returned to Puerto Rico on the Coamo.
By the time of the 1940 census, Leopold was married to Dolores Betancourt. They lived on Calle Del Carmen in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In January of 1947 Leopold flew from San Juan to Miami, Florida. Prior to his death in 2000, he lived on Myrtle Ave. in Brooklyn, New York.
Leopold Porrata died January 7, 2000, at the Brooklyn Hospital Center, and was buried on Hart Island.
