Julius "Jules" Warren Henderson was born in Granville County, North Carolina on the 25th of June 1893.  Jules was one of nine children born to the Rev. Simon S. Henderson and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Tuck Henderson.  The Henderson siblings included:  Emma, Talmadge George, Garnett, Langston John, Goldie Edith, Ruth, Omega, and William.

Simon and Lizzie Tuck were married at the Blue Wing Baptist Church in 1887.  Blue Wing is a small rural town located in Granville County, North Carolina near the Virginia border.  The Blue Wing Baptist Church is still an important part of the Blue Wing community in 2020 and there are many graves marked with the name "Tuck" in the Blue Wing Cemetery.

In 1900, Jules, now 6 years old, was living with his family in Durham, North Carolina, and his father was employed as a preacher.  The family later moved north and settled in Bloomfield, New Jersey, a suburb of Newark where the Rev. Henderson ministered and Julius was a student at the Fawcett School of Fine and Industrial Arts.

Julius' skills as an artist led him to Manhattan where he worked in advertising as a poster artist and was self employed.  His 1942 WWII Draft Registration Card describes a man who is 5 feet 4 inches tall with gray eyes, brown hair and a light brown complexion.

The Rev. Simon Henderson died in Jubilee Hospital, Henderson, North Carolina in 1923 and is buried in Blacknall Cemetery.  Older brother, Langston Henderson, died in 1970, and Talmage, in 1976.

Julius Warren Henderson died at the Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn on the 17th of December 1984 and was buried on Hart Island on the 9th of January 1985.
