Joseph/Giuseppe Sigismondi was born January 17, 1909 in Giovinazzo, Italy, the son of Michele and Antoneta/Antonia (Sollecito) Sigismondi. He had one sister, Paulina, born December 13, 1902 in Italy, and brothers Giovanni/John, born November 27, 1905 in Italy, and Americo/George, born December 4, 1920, in Providence, Rhode Island. Antonia and the three oldest children came to the United States on the SS Patria, traveling from Naples, Italy on January 31, 1920, and arriving in New York City on February 15, 1920. Their father, Michele, was the owner of a stationery store.
By 1940 the family was living on East 122nd Street in New York City. Joseph was then employed as a bartender.
During WWII, in May of 1942 Joseph enlisted as a private in the US Army at Fort Jay on Governors Island. He stated that he had a grammer school education, that he was 5'8"and weighed 126 pounds; and again he gave his civil occupation as "bartender." He was "single, without dependents."
In his later years, Joseph lived in Woodmere, Nassau County, New York.
Joseph Sigismondi died July 1, 1995, at St. John's Episcopal Hospital, and was buried on Hart Island.
