Jan Winiarski was an imigrant from Poland and went to USA first time 1987. He had been high degree (administration law) and he had his a small business. His family comes from small town in south-eastern part of Poland - Kolbuszowa. So I went to 7 class of primary school when my father gone to USA. He had been working and sending us packs and money. After some years the relations got worse and worse. He were changing the addresses and work. What worst, he were drinking alcohol with similar like him friends. At the end of 1993 he had accident in metro station when he were intoxicated. He had been attacked by some people and finally they pushed him on subway tracks. This fall was very serious, and till this he had many problems with his memory and mind (damaged hippocampus). He hired law office to gain any compensation from NY, but he needed to be cured continuously with someone's care.
Unfortunately we had no any direct contact with him. As I know, he became a beggar.
I remember few night phone calls from USA - someone called and tried to inform about his place. Nobody want to help him, we had not possibility to come to USA. My father had been living in biggest NY shelter for homeless which has been closed. He died 2nd December 2000 in hospital, after accident at subway station staircase (station 75th. Avenue and Queens Blvd) - fell down stairs while intoxicated. After few moths he had been buried at Hart Island like many of people. Hope that me and my family will have posibility to visit this special grave of my father in future...
