Henry Kornas was born September 6, 1919 in Poland, the son of Julian and Magdalena (Kulik) Kornas. Henry was single, a Roman Catholic, and a confectioner.
Following World War II, along with many thousand others, Henry found a temporary home at the resettlement camp in a former German Army (Wermacht) base in Wentorf, Germany.
Henry departed Europe on July 22, 1949, leaving Hamburg, Germany. The card file of displaced person recorded his destination as "152 6th Street, Jersey City, New York." Despite mis-locating Jersey City, Henry found his way to the correct address. In 1950 he was living with Carolina Bond, a Polish born widow and her daughter Stella at 152 6th Street in Jersey City, New Jersey. He found a job as a "pencil maker/metal" in a pencil factory.
Henry Kornas' last residence was in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York. He died on May 12, 1993, and was buried March 17, 1994 on Hart Island.
