George Baltzer Holge was born in Vesterrik, Sweden, on October 19, 1902. He and his wife Ingeborg (born August 26, 1899 in Soderkoping, Sweden) both immigrated to the United States in 1927. Both were able to read and write, with Ingeborg having had at least two years of high school education.
In 1930 the couple were living at 303 41st Street, Apt. B6 in New York City. George was working as a waiter in a restaurant. By 1933 they had moved to 614 40th Street in Brooklyn, with George still working as a waiter.
George and Ingeborg made a habit of moving frequently, in 1940 they were living at 58-06 43rd Avenue in Queens. George was employed at a hotel as the headwaiter, with an approximate income of $800.
At the beginning of World War II, George registered for the draft. He was living at 41-19 41st Street, Long Island City, Queens, and working at the Savarin Restaurant at Penn Station. He was described as 5'9" tall, weighed 155 pounds, with blue eyes, brown hair and a light complexion.
George was issued his certificate of naturalization as a United States citizen on February 23, 1944.
In 1947 Ingeborg had traveled to Sweden, likely to see her mother, Ida Bergstrom, who lived at Klippgatan 8, Huvudsta. Ingeborg was described as 5'2", blonde, blue eyed, with a fair complexion. She traveled on the ship Gripsholm, which departed from Gothenburg, to arrive in New York City on July 29, 1947. Ingeborg stated that her final destination was Long Island City.
In 1950 George and Ingeborg were both citizens. They lived at 4119 41st Street Apt. IF. George still worked 49 hours a week as a waiter in a restaurant.
Ingeborg began receiving Social Security payments on May 10, 1966.
George Baltzar Holge died on November 13, 1987, at the NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst. He was buried January 19, 1988 on Hart Island.
