Sheila Delores Ramsey was a woman who was found beaten to death in an abandoned store at 1065 Gates Avenue in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, on February 24, 1990.

She was identified through genetic genealogy in March 2025, and her name was released in March 2026.

Case

Ramsey's body was discovered in the boiler room of the abandoned building at approximately 1:30 AM. She had suffered blunt force trauma to her head and neck. No leads could be developed at the time, and she was buried on Hart Island in Plot 207 on April 17, 1990. A review of the case in 2007 did not yield any new information regarding the victim's identity or any potential suspects.

In early 2024, investigators began to pursue genetic genealogy to identify the woman. During the investigation, an obituary was found for Ramsey's mother. This investigation led to Ramsey's now-adult son, who met with authorities in January 2025 and provided a DNA sample. This sample was used to confirm her identity.

Ramsey was living in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn when she disappeared. She was last seen leaving her home with an unknown man to buy medicine for her son.
