Eugene Grenvicz was born on August 28, 1920 in Manhattan, New York, the son of Lucien and Josephine Grenvicz. Both of his parents were Russian immigrants. In 1940 the family lived at 5920 19th Avenue in New York City. Eugene had a brother, Edward, born around 1926. Their father worked as a baker in a bakery shop, and their mother worked as a "dress operator" in a dress factory. Their combined income was approximately $680 which supported the family.
Eugene registered for the draft at the beginning of World War II. He was described as 5' 11" tall, weighed 135 pounds, with blue eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion. Eugene had completed two years of college, and gave his civil occupation as a designer. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 28, 1942 in New York City, completing his service with the rank of Sergant.
On November 16, 1946 Eugene married Helen Cadek. She was born July 11, 1919 in Manhattan, the daughter of John and Caroline Cadek, who were both Czechoslovakian immigrants. Helen was a clothes designer, and her father worked as a ladies' tailor.
Eugene Grenvicz died on February 27, 1988. He was buried March 16, 1988 on Hart Island and was disinterred August 24, 1989. He is now buried in the Marietta National Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia, resting under a white government marker.
