Conceptualization Gibbs
“Concept” was a student at Martin de Porres School in Springfield Gardens, NY from 1992 to 1995 and graduated in the 8th grade. His birthday as we recall was 5/15/79. He was a quiet student who worked hard at his studies and was cooperative with his teachers. He got along with his peers. He was sometimes timid and laid back, but was friendly and enjoyable to be with.
Sadly when he reached his 15th birthday he had to move on to High School and leave Martin de Porres. The school felt he had a lot of promise but still needed the special attention and individual attention that this special school is known for. While he made huge strides in those years, he was not ready to return to a high school setting in a City like New York. We attempted to follow up with him, but it became difficult to maintain contact in those days when social media was not as developed as today.
It took 8 years after Concept left MDP to establish a high school program which allowed for continuing to work with our students for a much longer time to enhance their chances at success in a setting that required a lot more self-sufficiency.
Concept is not forgotten and his legacy is that he taught his old elementary school the need to work longer and harder with our kids. We will do him proud.
