Charles S. Weichman/Wichman was born on April 5, 1899, in Manhattan, New York, to Phillip and Lillian Wichman. Other children in the family were Arthur, Walter, and Edwin. The father worked as a millinary wholesaler, also described as a "capmaker." The family lived in the Bronx from 1900 through 1940.
Charles registered for the draft during WWI, at the age of 19. At that time he was working as a chauffeur for R. H. Macy and Co., and the family was living at 981 Jackson Ave.
The 1940 census showed Charles and Edwin both still single, and living with their elderly parents on East 178th Street. Charles was working as a taxi driver.
Charles S. Wichman died July 9, 1986, at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center, and was buried on Hart Island.
