Blanche (Fischer) Friedlander was born June 25, 1901, in Flushing, Queens, NY, the daughter of Louis and Charlotte (Friedman) Fisher. She had a brother, Sydney born in 1899, and a sister, Mildred, born around 1900. Their father, Louis, was born in Hungary/Austria, and supported the family by working as an "orchestra leader" or "music director." In 1910 the family lived on Second Ave. in Manhattan, and were prosperous enough to have a servant, a young Hungarian girl named Anna Roshert. Five years later the family was at 60 S. Nicholas Ave., next door to the children's grandparents- Herman and Mary Friedman. By 1920 they had moved again, to W. 172nd Street. Sydney was now following in his father's footsteps working as a musician, and Blanche was working as an office clerk for an insurance company.

In 1924 Blanche's father Louis Fischer died. He was buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Queens. Blanche was working in a Kindergarten in 1925, and she and brother Sidney were still living at home with their widowed mother, Charlotte. The three remained together through 1930, having moved to 610 W. 115th St. in Manhattan; and by 1940 only Blanche was still living with her mother, still single, and working as a retail store clerk.

On February 21, 1946, Blanche married Abram A. Friedlander. Abram was born on April 17, 1900, and served as a Private in Company E, 42nd Infantry, 12th Division during WWI. They made their home at number 4 Washington Square Village in Manhattan. Abram died on June 23, 1959, and was buried at Long Island National Cemetery in East Farmingdale.

Prior to her death, Blanche was living in Flushing, Queens. She died on November 25, 1989, at Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens. She was buried on Hart Island, despite her husband's burial instructions that she was to be buried in the same grave with him, in the National Cemetery.
