This is my Uncle Anthony and he died of AIDS complications and he was gay.
I am proud of him. I wish he had known that before he died. It took me many years to say that I didn't care about his sexuality. And today, I am proud to say he was my Uncle and he was gay.
He was 17 when I was born, so he was more like my big brother than my mother's brother. When he got sick, he felt that he couldn't tell me about his true self. As I've gotten older and understand what he went through.
As the only other surviving immediate family member, I miss him. It's hard to be the last one standing.
