Alvin Lawrence Generette was born on December 14, 1914, in Camden, New Jersey, the son of Wayman London and Mary W. (Hill) Generette. He had four sisters: Grace born around 1904, Dasie E. born 1905, Pearl born 1908, and Lizzie born 1909; and one brother London (or Landon) A. born July 5, 1910.
In 1910 the family was living on Jefferson Avenue in Camden, New Jersey. The father, Wayman, worked as a laborer, as a fireman in a hotel, and as a "purse net" fisherman.
By 1930 only Alvin and London remained at home with their widowed father; and the three lived on Black Stump Road in White Stone, Virginia.
Alvin Generette died September 24, 1991, at the Coler-Goldwater Memorial Hospital, and was buried on Hart Island.
