Aagot Iversen Gulbrandsen was born October 16, 1893 at Bergen, Norway. She was married to Olaf Gulbrandsen. They emigrated to Oakland, California in 1916, where their daughter Ruth was born. In 1919 Aagot and Ruth had been to Europe, returning from Christiana, Sweden to New York City on the S.S. Stavangerfjord. Their home in 1919 was in Fruitvale, California. In 1920 the family was living on Elmwood Ave. in Oakland, where Olaf worked as mate on a ferry boat.
In 1922 Aagot applied for a new U.S. passport for herself and her daughter so that they could again travel to Norway, Denmark and Sweden. She stated that she was a widow, and that her husband had become a naturalized citizen December 8, 1916. Aagot's physical description stated that she was "5'4", blue-grey eyes, a normal forehead, regular nose, small mouth, round chin, brown hair, fair complexion and oval face."
By 1930 Aagot was living in Queens, New York, and working as a maid at the Queensboro Hospital. In 1940 she was a housewife living on 89th Ave. in Queens, with several lodgers living in her home.
Aagot Gulbrandsen died June 22, 1980, at New York Presbyterian/Queens Hospital, and was buried on Hart Island.
